“Who,
being in very nature God, did not consider equality
with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the
very nature of
a servant, being made in human likeness.”
Philippians 2:6-7
Warm Up
We live in the world of sports where the word servant is not
a popular word. Self-confidence, pride,
ego and self image are words that are very important in the sports world. Most people believe that one cannot win
without these qualities. As disciples of
Christ we are called to live as servants in the world of sport and in life. But what does that mean? The next few weeks we will be doing a series
called “living as a servant”.
The series will hopefully cover many questions such as: What does it mean to live as a servant? Can you live as a servant without “being”
a servant? If so, what is a servant and
who is our best example of being a servant?
Hopefully we will be able to answer some of these questions, but to
summarize it we will break it down to three main areas:
1)
To
live as a servant you need to be a servant and Jesus is our best example.
2)
How
do we begin the process of becoming a servant like Jesus?
3)
How
can I practically start living today as servant?
